Dramance Narrative Engine

A free browser tool for making a playable story chat with your characters and lore, then publishing it on itch. No sign-up needed to try. 

I write characters and stories, and I wanted a simple way to let readers talk to one of my characters inside a scene, without building a game from scratch and learning Ren'Py. This dashboard is what came out of that.

It runs in the browser. It's free to use, and you can try it without registering. It's early beta so you may experience some bugs.

What you can do

• Make a narrative chat with two characters.  Drop in a text file and the dashboard parses it into two characters, the player's character and their partner, and a story of two episodes.
• At the end there's a screen you can customize, for example with a link to your Patreon or your own site. Then you can export the story to itch.io or publish it on our site. 

What you get with itch.io export

Actually, what you get is an HTML file with your story link inside an iframe. The whole story flow is generated by AI, and the player can pick from the offered choices or write any response of their own. The story adapts to what the player does, but it stays within the frame of your plot and your characters' traits.

How crystals work

When your players play your story, their bolder choices cost crystals.  Crystals are bought from us, and that is how we cover the cost of running your story. On the paid plans you'll later be able to turn crystals off. On the free plan they stay on and can't be switched off.

## FAQ

• Is it free? You can start for free: create a small story with two characters and up to 2 episodes (in beta, we will extend it). Extended features, paid plans and crystals for generation are available.
• Do I need an account? No, you can try it without registering. We recommend signing up so you don't lose your stories.
• How is this different from AI chatbots? Unlike the AI chatbots that are everywhere now, these are stories, not open-ended chats: characters, episodes and endings. You also get a tool and a way to publish. There's simple export to itch, a direct standalone link and a secret pass, and an end-of-story window with links to your Patreon, your own site, the full version of the story, or wherever you want readers to go next.
• A secret pass means your story is available only through its direct link and isn't listed in our catalog.
• Who owns my characters and story? You do. Under the Author Terms you keep all rights to your work. Dramance gets only a non-exclusive, revocable license to host and show the story.
•  Is my text used for AI training? No. Your text is not used to train or fine-tune AI models. The service providers we use are named in the [Author Terms], we use them under the commercial license without sharing or selling any data.
